Michael Dougherty’s “Godzilla: King of the Monsters” is the latest installment of Warner Bros. Pictures’ and Legendary Pictures’ cinematic “MonsterVerse”, following the hugely successful 2014 “Godzilla” and its sequel, “Kong: Skull Island”.

“Godzilla: King of the Monsters” re-introduces us to Monarch, the cryptozoological agency tasked by the government with tracking and studying the massive titans known as MUTOs (Massive Unidentified Terrestrial Organism) that have been discovered all over the world. With the threat of these Titans awakening, Monarch’s members face off against these of god-sized monsters, including the mighty Godzilla, who collides with other titans like Mothra, Rodan, and his ultimate nemesis, the three-headed dragon, King Ghidorah.

These new Titans in the cinematic MonsterVerse have been teased in a post-credits scene from 2017’s “Kong: Skull Island“, where we saw cave paintings of gigantic creatures that appear to be Godzilla, Rodan, Mothra, and King Ghidorah. The question is, does “Godzilla: King of the Monsters” also have a post-credits scene?

“Godzilla King of the Monsters” post-credits scene explained

Don’t leave your seats as the credits start rolling because, yep, “Godzilla: King of the Monsters” does have mid-credits and post-credits scenes.

During the mid-credits scene, we see news clippings and headlines saying that decades of Monarch research have finally been released to the public. Looks like the organization is not so secret anymore, which makes sense considering the global damage the MUTOs have done at the end of the film.

It also appears that Dr. Emma Russell’s theory that the MUTOs presence help to restore balance in nature has some truth to it. News headlines in the mid-credits scene also state that new life is spawning in the wake of the Titans, species are getting off the endangered list, ancient plants are considered as new superfood, and even Titan waste is taken as a possible energy source.

Co-existing with the Titans is also no longer an alien concept, as proven by news clippings saying that Godzilla, who is now the alpha, has been keeping the other Titans in check.

The rising anticipation for “Godzilla vs. Kong”

Interestingly, the post-credits scene also shows news clippings of Titan activity in Skull Island, which is the home of King Kong. We then see a less subtle teaser showing a cave painting of what appears to be Godzilla and King Kong facing off against one another.

This after-credits scene is definitely teasing the next installment of the franchise: “Godzilla vs. Kong”, which is slated to come out on 2020.

The good news is there’s not just one, but two after-credits scenes in “Godzilla: King of the Monsters“. At the end of the film, we see Colonel Alan Jonah, who appears to be talking to Isla De Mara locals (smugglers, as they appear), who mention to him that they can no longer fish in the area.

King Ghidorah’s possible return

Later, the post-credits scene reveals a decapitated, and decomposing head of King Ghidorah. We don’t know what he’s planning to do with Ghidorah’s head, but we’re sure that it’s not going to be good news for Monarch.
