Nostalgia Alert! Hand-Painted Movie Posters, Spotted at SM

If you’re like me who grew up before the Internet, then you may remember seeing those hand-painted movie billboards that cinemas used to make to promote what’s showing in theaters. Granted, some of these paintings weren’t exactly on point, but it can’t be denied that they do have their own unique charm.

These days, you’d rarely see any hand-painted movie billboards, as they have been replaced by LED screens and digitally printed ads. But on the 100th year of the Philippine Film Industry, SM Cinema has commissioned Sagmit Enterprises, the last-standing producer of hand-painted acrylic movie billboards, to produce beautiful, hand-painted movie posters for the films screening under the Pista ng Pelikulang Pilipino 2019.

These hand-painted movie posters are displayed at SM Cinema North Edsa, SM Cinema Megamall and SM Cinema Mall. See all the posters in the gallery above.

Just looking at these painted posters are giving me major nostalgia feels. Do you think cinemas should bring them back for good?
