WATCH: Lav Diaz's Musical "Ang Panahon Ng Halimaw" Drops Trailer

Trailer for Lav Diaz’s Rock Opera “Ang Panahon Ng Halimaw” Unveils

Lav Diaz’s new film, “Ang Panahon Ng Halimaw” (lit. “Season of the Devil”)—described by its producer, Bianca Balbuena, as “a musical, a rock opera, and a love letter to its crumbling country“—is making its premiere at the 2018 Berlinale, which commences on February 15, 2018. The full trailer has also been dropped via the film’s Facebook page. Watch it in the player embedded above.

Lav is no stranger to the fest; he took home the Alfred Bauer Silver Bear prize with his eight-hour epic “Hele Sa Hiwagang Hapis” (lit. “A Lullaby to the Sorrowful Mystery”) in 2016. On the same year, he won the Golden Lion at the Venice International Festival with “Ang Babaeng Humayo” (lit. “The Woman Who Left”).

Details are scant as to what Lav’s anti-musical musical is about, but it sure has the attention from both sides between the folks at the Berlin International Film Festival and local film outfits like Globe Studios and Epicmedia. The film stars Piolo Pascual, Shaina Magdayao, Angel Aquino and Bituin Escalante and will compete for the Silver/Gold Bear at the 2018 Berlinale.
