“Ant-Man and the Wasp” Trailer: How does it connect to “Avengers 4”?
The trailer for “Ant-Man and the Wasp” has dropped earlier this week. And from the video, it’s apparent that the sequel’s plot takes place before the events of “Avengers: Infinity War”. See the trailer at the top of this post.
We know that “Ant-Man and the Wasp” follows the events directly after “Captain America: Civil War”. But considering that the movie also takes place before “Infinity War”, some fans are wondering how their story ties up to the whole Avengers arc.
It has already been confirmed that Ant-Man (Paul Rudd) and the Wasp (Evangeline Lilly) will be appearing in the unnamed “Avengers 4” movie. Some “leaked” set photos have started appearing online, showing Scott Lang with Captain America and Iron Man. However, it’s worth noting that Cap is wearing his old costume, while Scott appears to be sporting a new suit. Could it be that Ant-Man survives Thanos’ purging, and he somehow finds a way to correct things in the past? After all, the synopsis of “Ant-Man and The Wasp”, also mentionsit. In one of the film’s teasers, Scott Lang asks Hope Van Dyne if she would have come when Cap needed their help, presumably in “Civil War”, to which she replies: “I guess we’ll never know”.
It’s also a possibility that Ant-Man and the Wasp survive the events in “Infinity War” because they are in the Quantum Realm, as seen in the trailer. The Quantum Realm is supposedly a dimension outside our own universe, which may explain how Thanos’ snap, which kills off half the life of our own universe, would not have affected both heroes.
We also had a quick look at Quantum Realm when the Ancient One sent Dr. Stephen Strange to several dimensions in the 2016 film “Doctor Strange”. According to Dr. Hank Pym (Michael Douglas), the Quantum Realm is a “reality where all concepts of time and space become irrelevant…” Could this be how Ant-Man jumps through time to meet Cap, and save the world?
Directors Joe and Anthony Russo haven’t given conclusive answers, but they did mention that Avengers 4 will focus on a different set of heroes. As for Ant-Man and the Wasp’s roles, Joe Russo explains “They all lead in their own way. From a plot standpoint, if there’s any corollary, “Ant-Man and the Wasp” probably has some elements that stitch in.”
Marvel’s “Ant-Man and the Wasp” is directed by Peyton Reen and will hit Philippine cinemas in July 2018.
