Casting memes aside, Scarlett Johansson has been on a roll lately.

Hot on the heels of Noah Baumbach’s already beloved drama, Marriage Story, in which she plays alongside Adam Driver, Johansson is set to appear in another Marvel movie, despite the tragic development of her character in Avengers: Endgame.

A first-look two-minute teaser-trailer has been uploaded just now, and it looks awesome.

Directed by Cate Shortland, whose prior works include the abduction thriller Berlin Syndrome, the new movie finds the eponymous Russian spy returning to her homeland Russia in the aftermath of the events from Captain America: Civil War. There, she reunites with her “family”, played respectively by Florence Pugh, Rachel Weisz, and David Harbour.

What unravels in Russia is as yet unknown, as the action sequences featured in the promo are at best generic Marvel fare. The official synopsis offers very little too: “A film about Natasha Romanoff in her quests between the films Civil War and Infinity War.”

Black Widow is expected to hit U.S. theaters on May 1st, 2020. For us folks in the Philippines, that could mean we’ll get to see it early (in which case the PH premiere would be April 29th, 2020).
