Mikhail Red’s “Eerie” makes its streaming debut later this month via Netflix. Confirmation comes from Netflix’s own newsletter, where they also announced the whole July 2019 lineup with the premiere of “Stranger Things” (Season 3) and “Designated Survivor: 60 Days”
The film, directed and co-written by Red (“Birdshot”, “Rekorder”), follows a clairvoyant (Bea Alonzo) who tries to uncover a string of suicides at an all-girls Catholic school.
“[The screenplay] feels sparse at first but later stifled with moments seemingly shoehorned to accommodate quick frights. There’s plenty of such moments, and they deplete much of the tension the filmmakers have studiously built with genuinely frightful scenes that somehow fall through the cracks.”
The film had its local theatrical release in March 2019. It grossed more than PHP 100 million in the box office. The film also starred Jake Cuenca, Maxene Magalona, Gabby Padilla, Mary Joy Apostol, and Ms. Charo Santos.
