“First Reformed” Trailer: Ethan Hawke in Paul Schrader’s Searing Drama

WATCH: "First Reformed" Trailer Finds Ethan Hawke in a Spiritual ConundrumA24 has just unveiled the trailer for “First Reformed”, the new film from “The Canyons” director Paul Schrader. Schrader’s directorial efforts have yet to touch the greatness of his screenplays, which lists such Steven Spielberg classics as “Taxi Driver” and “Raging Bull”. But from the looks of the trailer (which you can watch above), the new film, which stars Ethan Hawke and Amanda Seyfried, shows great promise.

A poster has been unveiled too, which you can find to the right. See the synopsis below.

A former military chaplain is wracked by grief over the death of his son. Mary is a member of his church whose husband, a radical environmentalist, commits suicide, setting the plot in motion.
A24 says “[describing] this movie without ruining its power,” an anomalous but welcome cross-breed between Spielberg’s “Taxi Driver” and David Lowery’s “A Ghost Story”. An official release date has yet to be announced, and it’s still unclear what date it will hit Philippine theaters if at all.
