Netflix is getting to the root of evil in Takashi Shimizu’s long-standing horror franchise, “Ju-On”, also known to western audiences as “The Grudge”. Titled “Ju-On: Origins”, the upcoming series doubles down on the story’s truth-based nature, having been loosely based on real-life tragedies that happened over four decades.

The series adds to the already expansive “Ju-On” franchise, following thirteen features (including the recently released 2020 “The Grudge” retelling) and two short films. Dating back to 1998 when Shimizu released his excellent short, “Katasumi and 4444444444”, the franchise is now one of the most popular horror franchises ever.

The ninety-second trailer teases just enough information about the series to get you hooked. Filled with scares, supernatural shapes, and unrelenting gore, “Ju-On: Origins” is poised as one of Netflix’s flagship import titles.
