Neither Man nor Wolf: “Mowgli” Trailer is a Darker “Jungle Book”
Warner Brothers has dropped the first trailer of Andy Serkis’ “Mowgli”. Despite the apparent live-action similarities, the trailer plays a much darker tone when compared to Disney’s “The Jungle Book”. This more serious treatmment, accordingto Serkis, is much closer to Rudyard Kipling’s vision in the book. Click the play button above to see the full trailer.
The trailer shows none of the singing and light-hearted comedy of Jon Favreau’s 2016 hit. “Mowgli” appears to have scarier animals, although anthropomorphized with heavy CGI. “I live in a king’s palace in a cage just like this”, a brooding Bagheera (voiced by Christain Bale) tells a caged Mowgli (Rohan Chand). The fearsome Shere Khan (voiced by Benedict Cumberbatch) also looks more terrifying and yep – hungry.
“Mowgli” will be released in cinemas on October 19, 2018. Completing the stellar cast is Cate Blanchett as the sinister snake Kaa, Naomie Harris as Raksha, Freida Pinto as Messua. Andy Serkis also joins the cast as the voice of Baloo.
