TBA Studios has dropped a brand-spanking-new trailer for Mikhail Red’s neo-noir Neomanila, unveiling the film’s theatrical release date. The film is getting its theatrical release two years since its premiere at the 2017 QCinema International Film Festival
The film marks Red’s third feature, following the wildly successful Birdshot (currently available on Netflix), and preceding his horror-drama, Eerie, starring Bea Alonzo and Charo Santos.
Here’s the film synopsis:
“Toto, a teenage orphan, is recruited by a notorious death squad. Irma, the group’s leader, soon becomes a maternal figure to the young boy. As the two form a familial bond, their loyalties will be put to the test when one of their targets turns out to be a familiar face.”
Neomanila earned early praises locally, with Rappler critic Oggs Cruz calling it “a fascinating slow burn”. The film would make its run ‘round the festival circuit, from the Asian Film Festival in New York to the Fantasia Film Fest in Montreal, where it would be warmly received.
Now thru TBA Studios, the same film outfit behind such films as Heneral Luna and I’m Drunk, I Love You, Red’s film is finally getting its local theatrical run.
Starring Eula Valdez and Timothy Castillo, Neomanila opens in Philippine theaters on March 13, 2019.
