Oscars 2020: Scarlett Johansson gets two acting noms, a first in thirteen years

Last updated:

For the first time in thirteen years, Scarlett Johansson has bagged a double-nomination at the 2020 Academy Awards. The last it happened was with Cate Blanchette, nominated for Elizabeth: The Golden Age and I’m Not There in 2007.

This year, Johansson is nominated both in Noah Baumbach’s Marriage Story and Taika Waititi’s Jojo Rabbit for the Best Actress in a Leading Role and Best Actress in a Supporting Role, respectively. She joins the ranks of Julianne Moore, Jamie Foxx, Emma Thompson, Jessica Lange, Barry Fitzgerald, and more.

Since this is ScarJo we’re talking about, the internet had a lot to say. Surprisingly tame, people point out that Akwafina (The Farewell), Lupita Nyong’o (Us), Sterling K. Brown (Waves), and more have been snubbed. I personally think Lupita should have been nominated twice for her two characters in Jordan Peele’s modern horror classic, but hey, that’s just me.

Here’s the full list of nominees, announced today.
