"The Craft: Legacy" trailer continues a 24-year-old spell

With Halloween coming up and its sequel afoot, Blumhouse has dropped the The Craft: Legacy trailer—and it’s looking pretty promising.

Among the slew of sleazy teen-horror films in the 90’s, Andrew Fleming’s The Craft was one of the few that stuck, alongside other modern classics like Scream.

Helmed by Band Aid-actor-director Zoe-Lister Jones, the new film is a modern take on the original, following yet again a quartet of young women practicing witchcraft.

I feel that the trailer makes it appear that the film will latch onto the same beats as the original, which can go both ways. On one hand, it’s never exciting to merely regurgitate an earlier work. On the other, the world has been consistently unkind to women that the ’96 original’s beats still land.

The film stars Cailee Spaeny, Gideon Adlon, Lovie Simone, Zoey Luna, Nicholas Galitzine, with Michelle Monaghan and David Duchovny.

There is no official Philippine release date (at press time), but it’s safe to assume it premieres around Halloween time. Watch the trailer below:

Unreel is the definitive outlet on Philippine and world cinema. Built on one crucial notion — every frame is magic.
