Following its successful run across the festival circuit, Lauren Greenfield’s exhaustive doco on Imelda Marcos, The Kingmaker, is finally making its premiere in its native Philippines.

The film premieres on January 29, 2020, 7:30PM, at the Tanghalang Aurelio Tolentino (CCP Little Theater), with a matinee screening at 3:00PM.

Showtime has shipped the documentary to many a-festival, including the 2019 Venice Film Festival where it first gained buzz.

The film, directed by Emmy award-winning documentarian Lauren Greenfield (The Queen of Versailles), follows the infamous former-first lady during her recent push for her son, Bongbong Marcos, for Vice Presidency alongside Rodrigo Duterte.

Inside the Marcoses’ lush mansion adorned by works of Picasso and Michelangelo, Greenfield talks to Imelda about Ninoy Aquino’s assassination, the disturbing legacy of the Marcos regime, and her penchant for collecting precious finds, be it shoes, prized artworks, or wildlife from Kenya. On the latter, she comments: “I was always criticized for being excessive. But that is mothering.”

Catch The Kingmaker on January 29, 2020, at the Cultural Center of the Philippines. Post-screening, a film representative and other guests from different sectors will hold a discussion to accommodate viewer questions.

UPDATE: UPFI has their own premiere at the Cine Adarna on January 29, 2020, 7:00PM. You may now reserve your tickets using this Google Form.
