Watch: Constance Wu Faces Off Against Michelle Yeoh in “Crazy Rich Asians” Trailer
The first trailer of Jon M. Chu’s romantic comedy “Crazy Rich Asians” drops today. Based on the acclaimed worldwide bestseller by Kevin Kwan, the story follows native New Yorker Rachel Chu (Constance Wu) who discovers that her boyfriend Nick Young (Henry Golding), is not only the scion of one of the Singapore’s wealthiest families but also one of its most sought-after bachelors.
The trailer starts with Nick inviting Rachel to his best friend’s wedding in Singapore. As they fly on first class, Rachel realizes that her boyfriend is not only rich. He’s crazy rich. It’s not long after, we see that Nick’s mom (Michelle Yeoh) isn’t too happy about Rachel dating his son. “I know you’re not what Nick needs,” she dauntingly tells Rachel, in a way that only a monster mom could do.
But Rachel isn’t one to easily back down. She confronts Nick’s mother, telling her “If Nick chose me, he would lose his family. And if Nick chose his family, he might spend the rest of his life resenting you.” Click the play button above to see the full trailer.
Some Filipino fans may wonder though where Kris Aquino’s character is in the trailer. The “Queen of all Media” revealed last week that she will portray a princess in the film. She’s nowhere in the trailer, but we may be able to see more of her on the film’s release on August 22.
