First Look: Sacha Baron Cohen Tricks Lawmakers in “Who is America”
“Borat’s” Sacha Baron Cohen returns to television in “Who is America”, a seven-episode, half-hour satire series available on demand on SHOWTIME. In a 10-minute first-look video released on Youtube, Cohen’s character, an “Anti-Terror Expert” named Col. Erran Morad, interviews Republican lawmakers about his call to give preschoolers the right to bear arms in order to protect themselves. See the full trailer by clicking the play button above.
Cohen’s character interviewed California Rep. Dana Rohrabacher, South Carolina Rep. Joe Wilson, and former Senate majority leader Trent Lott, who appear to believe that they are being interviewed by a legitimate show advocating for arming kids aged 3-16. “A three year-old cannot defend itself from an assault rifle by throwing a Hello Kitty pencil case at it. Our founding fathers did not put an age limit on the second amendment”, says Rep. Joe Wilson.
Virginia Citizens Defense League President, Philip Van Cleave, also appears in the preview making an instructional video for “gunimals” – which are essentially firearms made to look like toys for kids.
Cohen also landed an interview with Larry Pratt, Executive Director Emeritus of the Gun Owners of America. “The only thing that stop a bad man with a gun is a good boy with a gun”, says Col. Erran. To which Pratts responds, “Even a toddler!”
But the most hilarious part of the video, is when Pratt, who appears to be reading through a teleprompter, says to the camera that the “Kinderguardians” program is scientifically proven, since kids can see in slow-motion like owls (???), and children below 5 years of age have elevated “Blink – 182” pheromones.
I applaud Sacha Baron Cohen just for being able to keep a straight face through all this.
“Who is Amerinca” premiers on July 15 at 10 p.m. ET/PT, and is currently available on demand, only on SHOWTIME.
