Based on the seinen manga:
"Uzumaki" by Junji Ito
Adult Swim is bringing Junji Ito’s nightmarish images to life as a four-part animated series. The network made the announcement at the 2019 Crunchyroll Expo. Hiroshi Nagahama is attached to helm the series.
The show, which thankfully retains its title “Uzumaki”, is based on the same-name Lovecraftian seinen manga where everyone is cursed and doomed to an ever-whirling plunge into madness.
The full synopsis reads:
Uzumaki follows a high-school teenager, Kirie Goshima (五島桐絵); her boyfriend, Shuichi Saito (斎藤秀一); and the citizens of the small, fictional Japanese town of Kurōzu-cho (黒渦町 Black Vortex Town), which is cursed by supernatural events involving physical and psychological manifestations of spirals.
A teaser has been dropped for the series. You can watch it below, but it’s just animated imagery from the manga for now.
The forthcoming “Uzumaki” animated series will debut sometime in 2020.
