The “World War Z” game teases an undead-infested Moscow
Max Brooks’ enthralling novel, “World War Z”, is ripe for a sprawling franchise, and at one point that seemed to be the track the property has been taking. But Marc Foster’s film, released in 2013, was met with such a poor reception such plans seem to dismount on their own. With the recent confirmation that David Fincher attached to put a proper sequel at his helm, the franchise seems to have found its pulse for resurgence.
The first phase, it seems, is a full-fledged shooter. The new game, developed jointly by Paramount and Saber Interactive, seems to exist to remind us what “World War Z” is all about, and then an epiphany or two, chiefly that mounds of CGI undead berserkers are only fun when you’re shooting at them.
That is the key takeaway from the game’s trailer, which dropped just recently. Watch it at the top of this post or here:
The trailer teases the action that goes down in one of the game’s locations, a zombie-infested Russia. We’ve given a glimpse of who appear to be the primary characters in the game, and more important, how the game looks, which looks handsomely expensive. However, I’m more intrigued by how the gameplay goes, knowing especially that the story casts hordes and hordes of crazy-fast, famished zombies. That would make for a fun, fast-paced, and high-pressure shooter, but I’d like to be surprised.
The game was first announced at last year’s Game Awards show. Primed as a four-member co-op shooter, the game will draw inspiration from Brooks’ novel, and will aptly come in vignettes focusing on “survivor stories and missions around the world.”
“World War Z: The Game” for PlayStation 4, Windows PC, and Xbox One will hit stores later this year.
